The Basics of Aggressive Dog Training.
Aggressive dog training is for dogs that are not trained, and for dogs that are misbehaving.
Sometimes, the behavior of dogs are solely breed related, and many a time influenced by how it was raised by its breeder or owner.
It is very important that every dog owner understands that they should only possess dogs that could fit their lifestyle. For example, a sedentary type person must never possess a Dalmatian or a dog that is bred for active lifestyles, since their interests do not match the dog’s inherent needs and nature and may lead to unexpected disaster later on.
The next thing to be remembered is the importance of knowing the reason for your dog’s aggression.
You should only start any aggressive dog training, when you are confident that the dog is physically fit and it is in a condition to undergo the training sessions.
Pain and sickness are sometimes the main reasons for a dog’s unusual behavior. Always get your pet examined by a veterinarian, especially if it is acting weird.
While training, it is of utmost importance that you make your dog realize that you are the alpha dog, the boss, the leader of the pack.
Do not let your dog be your master, always be firm and consistent. If your dog still misbehaves, you can use either the time-out method, or the counter conditioning method.
In the time out method, you will first disapprove of the dog’s offensive behavior with a firm and emphatic “No”. On stating your disapproval, be sure to ignore the dog completely for the next 20 to 30 seconds. Keep this up till the dog connects your treatment with its offensive behavior and realizes that it is unacceptable.
In counter conditioning, the dog’s bad behavior is anticipated, and it is rewarded before it reacts to the particular stimulus.. For example, if your dog is aggressive to other dogs, counter condition means, rewarding the dog with its favorite treat each time another dog comes on to the scene. With enough repetition, your dog will soon associate other dogs with tasty treats and lose its aggression towards them..
Now that you are armed of this useful and practical information, you can train your dog without any professional’s help. A professional’s help while being reliable, can be quite expensive.
You can actually train your dog by yourself as long as you bear in mind that if a dog is physically abused, ignored and consistently chained it will become aggressive. Steer clear of these bad habits and spend time with your pet, at least one hour a day.
If you ignore your dog, a relationship will not be formed between the two of you and aggressive dog training would be meaningless if the way you treat your dog is stimulus for its bad behavior.
